This booklet contains the entire “NEARLY-OCCURRENCES” series developed by the photographer Henrique Soares as part of the creative collaboration with White Canvas.
In this series, Henrique travels in his own psychic reality by confronting it with the outside world. His fantasies, his desires, as well as his anxieties and his hopes are expressed through all these faceless fragments of life. By breaking up individual stories, he turns it into a personal-universal graphic novel. He creates an intimacy through the distance of these nearly-occurrences to assure and reassure himself of his own existence.
Author's note:
“An event is something that appears, that happens. What about a fact that doesn't happen or only happens halfway? I like to imagine that an event can take place, when we are almost there, when we want it or when we fantasize about it. If we draw a straight line, we can locate the event by putting a point on this line. But what I like is the interval of time that precedes this point, where everything is then possible. Henri Cartier-Bresson speaks about the "decisive moment" as a denouement, an accomplishment. What drives me is the indecisive moment, “nearly-occurrence”.”
